Monroe College

Online Freshman Orientation

Whether you are a full time online learning student, taking one or more courses online, or studying at an on-site location on the Monroe campus, the Office of Online Learning is available to provide the support you need to be successful in your studies.

ANGEL

ANGEL is the Monroe College Course Management System used by all online learners and their instructors. You can receive training with the ANGEL tutorial in one of these three ways:

  • Attend a new student orientation for fully online learners on Tuesday, September 9, 2008.
  • Attend an "ANGEL Training" session either onsite or online.
  • Come by the Online Learning office in Monroe Hall (first floor).

For more information about any of these options contact the Office of Online Learning at ext. 8592.

The ANGEL tutorial will orient you to studying online. It contains information on such topics as logging on, email in ANGEL, viewing your syllabus and lecture notes, retrieving and submitting assignments, taking quizzes and exams, how to participate in discussion forums, and checking grades.

Once you are registered for an online class, you can log onto the ANGEL system:

Suggestions for Success

  • Because Online students study independently, it is vital that they are disciplined about their work, well-organized and effectively manage their time.
  • Stay in touch with your instructor throughout the course.
  • Submit all of your work before the deadlines for full credit.  This also helps avoid stress and disappointment.
  • Have hardware and Internet service provider backups. That means if your computer system fails, you know you have access to another computer or Internet service provider for completion of your coursework. Of course, if you are on the Monroe College campus (Bronx or New Rochelle), you can use computers in the Learning Resource Centers or Libraries.
  • Familiarize yourself with how to get help when you need it.
    • If the problem relates to the course content or assignments, contact your instructor
    • If the problem is of a technical nature, contact the Monroe College Help Desk at (718) 933-6700 ext. 8290 for assistance.
    • For help registering for your courses and other administrative needs contact the Online Learning Office at (718) 933-6700 ext. 8592 or send an email to online@monroecollege.edu.
  • On rare occasions, the Monroe E-Learning system will experience interruptions. Please let your instructor know if this has caused any delays in your work.
