Information

Thank you for your interest in Monroe College Summer Law for High School students.  This is your chance to explore a career in law and at the same time, get a taste of New York college life.

Careers in law, law enforcement, criminal justice and forensics dominate the news today.  Television shows like CSI and Law & Order feed the public's insatiable interest in criminal justice.  Although interesting, the media never seems to discuss what goes on behind the scenes or what is required to prepare for a career in law or law enforcement.  Monroe College Summer Law will.

You will have the opportunity to talk with experienced professionals in all aspects of criminal law and civil rights law.  You will witness court proceedings, meet attorneys, judges and correctional professionals and meet counselors, social workers and forensics experts.  These professionals are a part of the legal system in its most powerful human dimensions. The one week Summer Law program culminates in a mock trial, where you and your colleagues will call the shots, and create the drama.

You will need to be curious, take calculated risks, and work with all kinds of people.  The most successful students are those who are excited about learning and put their thinking and communicating skills to the test.  By the end of this week long program, you will have a real taste of what is required to succeed in many of these careers.

Also, during your week at Summer Law you will get the most out of the sights and sounds of New York City, one of the most dynamic cities in the world.

I look forward to meeting you!
