  • Adult Learners

Welcome to Monroe College! We are here to navigate the process with you in hopes for a successful transition into collegiate life. Our mission is to assist you in achieving your goal to earn a college degree. Admissions into Monroe's Accelerated Degree program for adults operates on a rolling admissions basis. We have six starts a year with classes offered online, onsite, and hybrid. You can take classes part or full time for 7.5 or 15 weeks. Our flexible scheduling and three semester each year, enables students to finish their degrees faster than traditional scheduling. Also, all adult students are considered for prior learning that may translate into credit toward their degrees. We encourage all students to apply early as grants and scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis to those students who qualify.

If you have questions, please contact our Vice President, Adult Enrollment, Lamar Haynes at lhaynes@monroecollege.edu

    Admissions Process

Step 1: Online Application & Personal Essay

Students will need to complete and submit an online application, which includes a personal essay.

    Step 2: Submit Credentials

After completing and submitting the online application, students will need to provide the Monroe College admissions office at either campus location with the following:

    • High School Transcript or Diploma
    • Transfer Credit (if students are transferring credits from a previous institution, they must submit unofficial academic transcripts for admissions review and official transcripts prior to registration)
    • Submit $35 admissions fee ( pay here)

    Step 3: Admissions Interview

To complete the application, students will need to schedule an interview with an Admissions Advisor from Monroe College to discuss their educational goals, career aspirations and outside interests. Students who are unable to travel to campus can expedite the admissions process by conducting an interview over the phone with an Admissions Advisor. Please call your Advisor listed in the admissions portal to schedule an interview after completing steps one and two.

Once you have submitted all of your admissions documents (application, essay, academic transcripts), you will be notified of your acceptance decision within one week.

    Prior Learning

At Monroe College, we recognize that college level learning does not only take place in a classroom. Adults returning to college seeking a degree after years of life experience, may have gained expertise that can translate into credits toward required course work. We work with adults to evaluate and assess their college-level knowledge and skills gained outside of the classroom for college credit. This evaluation is called prior learning assessment (PLA).

    Prior Learning Sources

    • volunteer work
    • training programs or in-service courses
    • military service

    • proficiency exams
    • professional certifications or training
    • national exams
    • prior learning portfolio
