The Curriculum
The master's degree in criminal justice is a 37-credit program that you can complete in four semesters, if desired. In addition to your eight core courses, you can tailor the program to your interest with concentrations in:
- Human Services
- Urban Crime Policy
- Homeland Security
Criminological Theory
Develop a comprehensive understanding of the different theories of criminal behavior. In addition to becoming versed in the different criminological theories, you'll focus on the efficacy of the different theories and their usefulness in crime reduction strategies.
Foundation Courses
Depending on your undergraduate experiences, you may be required to take foundational courses before beginning the Master’s program. Courses are offered online or on campus on weekends.
- Statistics Foundations - The objective of this course is to strengthen skills in abstract thinking, critical analysis, and forecasting.
Professional Experience Track
The Professional Experience Track is for students who need additional professional work experience to supplement their academic program.
Students in the Professional Experience Track must complete at least two, one-credit internship courses. These courses must be approved as an appropriate match for your academic program.

Industry Alignment
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of police and detectives is projected to grow five percent from 2018 to 2028. The need for advanced criminal justice professionals in public safety, human services, community development and urban crime policy continues to be strong both at home and abroad.
