  • Early Childhood Education Degree

Bachelor's (BS) Degree Program in Early Childhood Education

The Bachelor of Science (BS) degree program in Early Childhood Education (birth to second grade) offers future teachers a substantive knowledge base in all areas of child development. At Monroe, we focus on educating teachers to meet the special needs of young students who come from high-need areas.

Because the education of elementary school children in underserved areas is our priority, the curriculum focuses on ways to make learning culturally relevant for children who are low-income, second language learners, and immigrants in our urban public schools.

As a future teacher, you’ll become familiar with general and advanced principles of cognitive, physical, and affective development. You’ll gain a broad background in the liberal arts, plus practical insights for incorporating developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities into the classroom. More than just educational theory, the program is rich in field experiences such as internships and student teaching opportunities. You’ll graduate ready to sit for the exam and earn your teaching license.
