The United States Immigration and Citizenship Services (USCIS) regulations allow for some employment opportunities for foreign students.However, employment without proper authorization is a serious violation of status.Therefore, all employment support for international students must be authorized. Students must meet with an advisor in International Student Services prior to beginning any paid employment.In addition, some students will require authorization from the USCIS. International Student Services staff can help with that, too.
Employment Options for International (F-1) StudentsStudents must be in good academic standing for any employment.
Note: In April 2008, USCIS approved a 17-month extension for students
who are completing a 12-month OPT. This permits 29-month employment for certain
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) degree holders. This
includes some Monroe School of Information Technology graduates. For more
