Launch Your Career in Hospitality at Monroe
Monroe College’s International Hospitality Training Institute allows residents of the Caribbean to train for entry-level travel and tourism jobs. The College proudly partners with the government of St. Lucia on this special program. The Training Institute, located in the town of Vieux Fort in St. Lucia, offers certificate programs in five high-demand hospitality areas. Additional training on professionalism, customer service, communication skills, teamwork, accountability, and leadership is incorporated into each track.
- Complete each certificate in 14 weeks.
- Open to students throughout the Caribbean, age 18 and older.
- Three start dates throughout the year – January, May and October.
Academic Calendar
Classes for each certificate program run for 14 weeks, with the following program start dates:
- Monday, October 15, 2018

- Tuesday, May 21, 2019
Bartending
Get the training required to be a professional bartender. Critical areas explored include beverage mixology, customer relations, handling payment transactions, maintaining inventory and stock. You'll learn best practices in creating a positive guest experience by focusing on interpersonal skills, food and beverage knowledge, beverage service tips and techniques, sanitation, and safety.
Event Planning and Logistics
From special occasions such as weddings and birthday parties to business conferences, community events, and concerts, making sure that events are executed well–and to guests' delight–is essential.
The Certificate in Event Planning and Logistics is designed to help you master the broad range of skills required to be effective Event Coordinators, assisting the Event Planner. Typical areas of responsibility include coordinating a detailed event plan, implementing policies and procedures, evaluating events, and assisting with logistics.
Front Office and Guest Services
Front office operations, typically known as Guest Services, play a pivotal role in hospitality, ensuring that assistance is provided in a warm, professional, and responsive manner from the moment a guest arrives.
This certificate provides you with the confidence, skills, knowledge and professional orientation to be well-prepared for customer service roles on cruise ships, hotels, and resorts. You'll learn to communicate effectively, resolve complaints, handle guest reservations, arrivals and departures and understand safety and security.
Food & Beverage Service
Because bars, restaurants, and entertainment venues are a significant source of revenue, there is great demand for talented staff to ensure guests have a positive experience.
This certificate prepares you with the requisite skills, knowledge, and professional attributes to provide guests with outstanding service. Topics include basic food and beverage knowledge, professional etiquette, and best practices in delivering quality service. You'll discuss standards in table service, effective sales techniques, and dealing with customer issues.
Housekeeping
Today, hospitality venues are being built to accommodate more visitors. Keeping the guest accommodations comfortable, clean, and well-maintained is a constant priority. Housekeeping staff play a large role in ensuring that guests’ needs are being met throughout their vacations.
This certificate prepare you to be a strong brand ambassador and an effective, responsible, and personable Housekeeper (or Stateroom Attendants). You'll learn best practices in guest relations, housekeeping, and security.
