Ana Garcia

"At first, I was too intimidated to go into the classroom as a student teacher, so my professors helped by co-teaching with me. Now I’m confident in leading my class."

“I transferred to Monroe from Westchester Community College after hearing about the College from my brother, who was a student here. I had an amazing, rewarding experience,” says Ana Garcia, now a kindergarten teacher at the Washington Heights and Inwood Music (WHIM) Community Center. She received her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education summa cum laude in 2018.

“Monroe has helped me grow not only as a teacher, but as an individual. The professors are always there for you; they kept me motivated even on days I didn’t feel my best. Classes are in a smaller setting and provided me with lots of attention which helped me stay focused.”

Getting a job after graduation was easier because of  Monroe’s many connections in the community.
