Express Women’s Basketball Vie for National Title

Our Division III Express women’s basketball team is in Minneapolis this week competing for the NJCAA national championship title. They play their first game in the tournament tonight at 7:00 pm.

They won their third consecutive Region 15 championship title last week after besting Nassau Community College.

It’s been an incredible season for the team.
Local broadcaster News 12 was on the Bronx campus last week to cover the team's
impressive accomplishment; their news story is posted here.

The Express, with its 18-16 record for the season, entered the national tournament as the No. 11 seed. Tonight, they will play against the No. 6 seed Dallas College’s Cedar Valley campus team, which has a 17-5 record for their season. The winner of the contest will compete in the quarterfinal round of the NJCAA Championships tomorrow evening.

President Jerome sent a congratulatory note out to the team this morning, which was shared with the College community.

As reported by Express’ Sports Information Director A.J. O’Hagan on the athletic program's official website:

The Express earned an automatic bid into the NJCAA Tournament by capturing both the Region 15 and Northeast District Championships. Monroe secured the titles by defeating nationally ranked No. 10 and second-seeded Nassau Community College, 66-64, at Kingsborough Community College Gymnasium on Sunday, March 3. It marked Monroe's third consecutive regional/district championship and automatic bid into the NJCAA Postseason.
