Nine Div. I Mustangs Teams Recognized for Academic Excellence, Earning NJCAA Academic Awards

When it comes to being a Mustang, our student-athletes know that what they do in the classroom is more important than anything done while wearing the uniform on the field, pitch, or track.

Accordingly, the College was exceptionally delighted to learn this week that nine of our teams qualified for the 2020-21 NJCAA Academic Awards, as announced by the NJCAA late last week.

NJCAA teams qualify for this prestigious NJCAA recognition by achieving a combined team GPA of 3.0 or higher for the given academic year. Teams that qualify but do not receive the NJCAA Academic Team of the Year award in their respective sport are honored as Honorable Mentions.

The Mustangs set a program record -- and led the NJCAA -- with four teams taking home their respective 2020-21 NJCAA Academic Team of the Year awards. Women's outdoor track and field (3.48) secured this award for the fourth straight year, while women's cross country (3.88), men's cross country (3.62) and men's indoor track and field (3.45) all earn the award for the first time.

In addition to the four award winners, five more teams qualified by earning a 3.00 or greater team GPA for the 2020-21 academic year.

The College congratulates the student-athletes on each of these teams for their amazing performances in the classroom. They are:
